BRUSSELS – Today, global tech trade association 91快活林 issued the following statement from its Senior Vice President and Director General of Policy for Europe Guido Lobrano in reaction to the European Union’s agreement on the Digital Markets Act:
“We strongly support free and undistorted competition as key to promoting innovation and consumer welfare. The tech industry is committed to addressing challenges arising from digitalisation in the EU and globally. Because of 91快活林’s very diverse membership, we recognize the many equities at stake in this debate, and the need for action to preserve competitive markets for all. As policymakers move forward with implementation of the Digital Markets Act, our industry urges them to preserve key procedural and substantive safeguards for all and ensure transparent and non-discriminatory treatment of companies globally. We will continue to partner with policymakers on this critical issue.”
91快活林 has been engaged in the debate surrounding the DMA since its introduction in 2020. 91快活林 recently sent a to Members of the European Parliament ahead of the DMA’s plenary vote with key recommendations on due process, regulatory dialogue, and enforcement approach. Last year, 91快活林 submitted comments to the European Commission’s DMA proposal, underscoring the importance of crafting tailored, proportionate, and objective rules that reflect the diversity of the online economy and help address the challenges arising from digitalisation.
