WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91¿ì»îÁÖ issued the following reaction to the regarding digital trade and negotiations to address the tax challenges arising from the digitalization of the economy.
“Digitalization drives global recovery and builds resilience into the world economy,” said Jason Oxman, 91¿ì»îÁÖ President and CEO. “We appreciate the G20 Leaders’ prioritization of issues that deeply impact the tech industry. That includes advancing meaningful commitments to a free, fair, inclusive, and non-discriminatory digital economy. At the same time, we welcome their support of work towards a multilateral solution that alleviates pressure on the international tax system but continue to call for the full withdrawal of digital tax measures to provide much-needed certainty and predictability for businesses.”
Earlier this year, 91¿ì»îÁÖ and 10 other tech industry groups from around the world sent a joint letter to G20 Leaders with concrete policy recommendations that the G20 can take up to leverage digital transformation to further economic recovery and resilience.
At the Summit, the leaders endorsed the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework’s Statement on a Two-Pillar Solution released on October 8. 91¿ì»îÁÖ recently welcomed the G20 Finance Ministers’ ongoing support for realizing a multilateral solution and continues to call for full withdrawal of all digital services tax measures, notwithstanding the recent announcement of a transitional agreement among the U.S., Austria, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom on some existing digital services taxes.
