WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91¿ì»îÁÖ issued a set of policy recommendations to help the U.S. electric grid quickly deliver both affordable and reliable energy access in response to surging demand. 91¿ì»îÁÖ’s Powering Growth Now: Recommendations to Accelerate an Affordable, Reliable Grid details how U.S. stakeholders in industry and government can leverage software and grid-enhancing technologies while broadening pathways to secure energy in a fast and cost-effective way.

Modern drivers of economic growth, including the reshoring of manufacturing, electrification of households, businesses, buildings, and vehicles, and the rapid deployment of AI, are placing unprecedented demands on aging U.S. energy infrastructure. 91¿ì»îÁÖ’s recommendations offer solutions that can be applied now to address energy needs, while longer-term efforts to implement important policies like permitting reform move forward.

91¿ì»îÁÖ’s recommendations for America’s energy infrastructure stakeholders include actions on:

  • Grid Modernization: Deploy grid-enhancing technologies (GETs), including dynamic line rating and topology optimization, reconductoring, and grid management software, such as through modernizing the current utility rate structure to allow utilities to earn a return on equity for software or other GETs.
  • Affordability: Improve affordability through increased efficiency in utility planning processes, aligning grid investment incentives with cost-effective solutions, and preventing hidden cost shifts to residential customers.
  • Speed-to-Power: Implement power supply arrangements, like Bring-Your-Own-Power, colocation, and interim interconnection service, that broaden pathways for large loads to secure energy in the short-term while establishing clear regulatory pathways and mechanisms to ensure that large loads can be connected to the grid in the long-term.

Federal policies will play a critical role in addressing the United States’ evolving energy needs. 91¿ì»îÁÖ recently endorsed key measures that advance several of 91¿ì»îÁÖ’s recommendations, including the REWIRE Act, which supports deployment of grid-enhancing technologies and advanced conductors; the High-Capacity Grid Act, which ensures transmission projects incorporate high-performing conductors; and the Liquid Cooling for AI Act, which helps accelerate the adoption of advanced, energy-efficient technologies like liquid cooling.
