WASHINGTON – As increased energy demand affects water resources, 91¿ì»îÁÖ’s The Green Grid (TGG) released a new Water Usage Impact (WUI) metric that equips data center designers, owners, and operators with detailed information about the efficiency of their facility’s water consumption. By expanding on TGG’s existing Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) metric, WUI combines water consumption and water stress into a single, comprehensive metric that helps stakeholders more accurately measure the impact on local water supplies.
Notably, WUI can inform data center site selection, assist in optimizing cooling methods, boost transparency and credibility, and track performance and efficiency more effectively.

WUI is the latest in a series of next-generation TGG metrics released this year—including Data Center Resource Effectiveness (DCRE) and Information Technology Work Capacity (ITWC)—that collectively enable improved data center efficiency and digital sustainability for the AI-era.
