BRUSSELS — Today, global tech trade association 91Ώμ»ξΑΦ welcomed the European Commission’s completion of the third annual review of the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield agreement. In its , the Commission concluded that there continues to be an adequate level of protection for personal data transferred from the EU to participating U.S. companies under the Privacy Shield.
“The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield is a crucial instrument in strengthening trust and promoting innovation globally,” said 91Ώμ»ξΑΦ’s Vice President for Europe Guido Lobrano. “As the Commission’s report underscores, this landmark initiative continues to be a reliable and stable mechanism for smooth and secure transatlantic data flows, which is essential for the protection of consumers and operation of businesses in today’s data-driven economy.”
91Ώμ»ξΑΦ previously joined other industry stakeholders in sharing feedback on the functioning of the Privacy Shield with the European Commission and applauded the appointment of the Privacy Shield Ombudsperson by the U.S. as a milestone in ensuring strong oversight regarding the privacy of European citizens’ data transferred abroad.
