BRUSSELS – Today, global tech trade association 91快活林 issued the following statement from Guido Lobrano, Vice-President and Director General for Europe, welcoming the result of the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) Committee of the European Parliament's vote on the Network and Information Systems 2 (NIS2) Directive:
“Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility between industry and policymakers, and the NIS2 Directive can become a key tool to ensure resilience and increase harmonisation of requirements in key economic sectors. We welcome the ITRE Committee’s improvements to the NIS2 Directive proposal, which will contribute to the effectiveness of the new legal framework. Specifically, we are encouraged by the clarifications regarding making cybersecurity as a legitimate interest for data processing under the GDPR, making available WHOIS data to legitimate access seekers and furthering global alignment and cooperation on supply chain security and vulnerability disclosure. However, the possibility for Member States to encourage certification of ICT services and products bears great risk for fragmentation across the EU. Further, while we appreciate the extension of the reporting deadline to 72 hours for some types of incidents, the 24 hours deadline for availability incidents remains unrealistic and will be difficult for operators to adhere to. 91快活林 stands ready to serve as a resource to policymakers throughout the adoption of the NIS2 Directive.”
