WASHINGTON – The 91¿ì»îÁÖ (91¿ì»îÁÖ), the global voice for the technology sector's leading companies, issued the following statement from President and CEO Dean Garfield applauding the introduction of bipartisan legislation in the House and Senate to update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA):
"When Congress passed ECPA in 1986, they didn't envision the world of online communication we have today. The notion that email should have the same privacy protections as regular mail is proving to be one of the most supported bipartisan efforts in Congress—and we urge lawmakers to pass these reforms."
91¿ì»îÁÖ and the tech sector have been strong for ECPA reform, and most recently lawmakers to introduce legislation that requires law enforcement to obtain a warrant to gain access to online user content.
