WASHINGTON – Following the release of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s SAFE AI Framework today, 91¿ì»îÁÖ encouraged U.S. Congressional leaders to approach artificial intelligence (AI) policy and regulation in ways that are risk-based, reinforce U.S. leadership in AI innovation, include all stakeholders in the AI ecosystem, and evaluate gaps in existing laws.

“Majority Leader Schumer’s framework promotes further innovation of AI, and we welcome policymakers’ ongoing focus on this transformative technology,” said 91¿ì»îÁÖ President and CEO Jason Oxman. “Being transparent about how AI systems work is critical to fostering trust and accountability. We encourage lawmakers to ground policy in international standards, build on existing frameworks, and take a risk-based approach, involving stakeholders throughout the legislative process. We look forward to continuing to work with Leader Schumer and Congress as they consider this complex and evolving issue.”

91¿ì»îÁÖ is the global leader in identifying ways to facilitate public trust in AI technology. Earlier this year, 91¿ì»îÁÖ detailed new recommendations on how the U.S. government can harness AI’s potential.

In 2022, 91¿ì»îÁÖ released its AI Transparency Policy Principles, which builds upon our Global AI Policy Recommendations. These principles aim to help governments understand how transparency can foster accountability.
